West Ham United striker Michail Antonio is poised to rejoin his teammates in training next month, marking a remarkable recovery following a severe car accident in December 2024. The 34-year-old sustained a broken leg in the incident, which occurred in Essex and involved his Ferrari. After spending over three weeks hospitalized, Antonio has been undergoing rehabilitation in Dubai, where he has commenced light training, including jogging on grass.

West Ham manager Graham Potter has lauded Antonio's progress but emphasizes the necessity of a cautious approach to his return. Potter stated, "It's been a really good phase of the rehabilitation for him... It's a case of [not] rushing but certainly it's positive." Antonio's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, with discussions regarding a potential extension forthcoming.

During his tenure with West Ham, Antonio has made 323 appearances and scored 83 goals. The club has faced challenges in his absence, securing only one victory in their last ten league matches and currently standing 16th in the Premier League. They are aiming to improve their performance in the upcoming match against Arsenal.

Reflecting on his ordeal, Antonio expressed gratitude upon his discharge from the hospital on New Year's Eve, stating, "Every year around this time, I'm asked what I'm grateful for... this year, I know exactly what I'm grateful for: being alive." He extended thanks to the emergency services, NHS, Air Ambulance, and West Ham United for their support during his recovery.

The accident has had a profound impact on the team, with midfielder Tomas Soucek dedicating a recent victory to Antonio. Soucek remarked, "The goal was for him... I dedicated it to him." The club has also shown solidarity by auctioning signed match shirts, with proceeds benefiting the NHS and Air Ambulances UK.

As Antonio continues his rehabilitation, West Ham remains hopeful for his return, while also focusing on improving their standing in the league.
