Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has joined the ownership group of San Diego FC as a Club Partner, making history as the first African female to be involved in Major League Soccer (MLS) ownership.

San Diego FC, an expansion team set to debut in the MLS in 2025, announced the partnership, highlighting Tems' influence in music and culture. The Grammy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated artist expressed her excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing her passion for creativity and community development.
“I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation,” Tems stated.

With this groundbreaking move, Tems joins a growing list of global celebrities investing in sports franchises, further solidifying her influence beyond music.
Tems joins San Diego FC in partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm that recently led an investment group into NBA Africa in 2021.

San Diego FC's ownership group includes notable figures such as actress Issa Rae, World Cup-winning footballer Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and San Diego Padres’ All-Star Manny Machado. The club's primary ownership is led by British-Egyptian entrepreneur Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, marking the first time a Native American tribe has had a stake in a professional soccer team.
