Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled student Precious Mbakwe for assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. The incident occurred when Dr. Okoye interrupted a TikTok video Mbakwe was recording on campus.
In a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar Victor I. Modebelu, the university stated that the Student Disciplinary Committee found Mbakwe's actions to be a gross violation of the institution's disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR). The expulsion is effective immediately, and Mbakwe is required to vacate the university premises and return any university property in her possession.

The altercation began when Dr. Okoye tapped Mbakwe to request passage while she was recording her video. Mbakwe reacted angrily, accusing him of hitting her. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation, with Mbakwe reportedly biting Dr. Okoye and tearing his clothing. Dr. Okoye did not retaliate during the incident.
This incident has sparked widespread discussion about student conduct and the importance of maintaining respectful interactions within academic institutions. UNIZIK's decision underscores its commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students and staff.
