Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has addressed João Félix's recent loan transfer to AC Milan, emphasizing that the decision was mutually agreed upon without any conflict.
Maresca stated:
"Nothing bad happened. Players train every day and want to play all the games. But just 11 are playing. We decided altogether that it was a good option to leave. He never complained."
Limited Playing Time at Chelsea
Félix, who returned to Chelsea on a permanent deal in August 2024 after a previous loan spell, found his playing opportunities limited under Maresca's management. Despite his technical ability and versatility, he faced competition from key players such as Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku.
Maresca previously praised Félix's qualities but highlighted the challenge of maintaining a balanced squad. He explained:
"We need defensive balance, and we cannot play with João, Cole, Christo—I like to put all of them inside the pitch, but then you also have to defend, and you need the right balance between attacking and defending."
With these tactical considerations, Chelsea and Félix mutually agreed that a loan move to AC Milan would be the best option, allowing the Portuguese forward to secure regular playing time.
Stunning Debut for AC Milan
João Félix wasted no time in making an impact at AC Milan, scoring a brilliant goal just 12 minutes after coming on in his debut during the Coppa Italia quarter-final against AS Roma. His composed chip over the goalkeeper helped Milan secure a 3-1 victory and advance to the semi-finals.
His impressive start in Italy has drawn praise from fans, with some suggesting that Chelsea may have underutilized his talent. Supporters took to social media to highlight how the 24-year-old is thriving with Milan, contrasting his struggles for game time at Stamford Bridge.
With this promising start, Félix now has the opportunity to revive his career in Serie A, proving his quality on a consistent basis for AC Milan.
