Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon received a straight red card during the FA Cup fifth-round match against Brighton & Hove Albion on March 2, 2025. The incident occurred in the 83rd minute when Gordon appeared to push Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke in the face, leading referee Anthony Taylor to dismiss him for violent conduct.

As a result of this red card, Gordon faces a standard three-match suspension, which includes the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on March 16, 2025. This suspension also rules him out of Premier League fixtures against West Ham United on March 10 and Brentford FC on April 2.

Gordon's absence is a significant setback for Newcastle, especially considering he missed the club's previous Carabao Cup final appearance in 2023 due to being cup-tied.

The FA Cup match against Brighton ended 1-1 in regular time, with Newcastle's Alexander Isak converting a penalty in the 22nd minute and Brighton's Yankuba Minteh equalizing just before halftime. The game proceeded into extra time following the red cards issued to both Gordon and Brighton's Tariq Lamptey.
