Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz is set to be out of action for several weeks after sustaining a ligament injury in his right ankle. The 21-year-old picked up the injury during Bayer Leverkusen's recent 2-0 defeat against Werder Bremen.
This setback means Wirtz will be unavailable for the crucial Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash against Bayern Munich, where Leverkusen aims to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg. Additionally, the German international will miss the upcoming Nations League quarter-final fixtures against Italy later this month.
Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, acknowledged the impact of Wirtz's absence, expressing confidence in the squad's ability to cope despite the setback. Rolfes remains optimistic that Wirtz will recover before the season ends.
Wirtz has been a pivotal figure for Leverkusen this season, recording nine goals in the Bundesliga and six in the Champions League
