Kelechi Iheanacho marked a significant moment in his career by scoring his first league goal for Middlesbrough, helping them secure a 2-1 victory over Oxford United at Riverside Stadium. This crucial win puts Boro level on points with sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion as they push for a Sky Bet Championship play-off spot with seven matches remaining.

Oxford United took the lead in the 38th minute when Michal Helik capitalized on a long throw-in, driving a low shot past goalkeeper Mark Travers. Despite earlier opportunities, including a close attempt by Hayden Hackney, Middlesbrough went into halftime trailing.

Iheanacho, who joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla in January, found the equalizer early in the second half. He latched onto a precise cross from Samuel Iling-Junior, finishing with a powerful first-time shot to record his first league goal since 2023.

The decisive goal arrived ten minutes from time when Brazilian defender Neto Borges flicked in his first for the club, once again assisted by Iling-Junior. This secured Middlesbrough’s third consecutive home league
