During the penalty shootout, Mbappé immediately pointed out an irregularity in Julián Álvarez’s penalty attempt, gesturing to the officials that Álvarez had touched the ball twice.

VAR confirmed Mbappé's observation, revealing that Álvarez had inadvertently made contact with the ball using both his standing foot and his striking foot—a clear violation of the rules. As a result, the penalty was disallowed, shifting the momentum in Real Madrid's favor. 

The match concluded with Real Madrid claiming a 4-2 victory in the shootout, advancing to the quarterfinals where they will face Arsenal.
