NYSC Assures Corps Members of ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance Increase Starting March 2025

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced an impending increase in the monthly allowances for corps members, raising it from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000. This adjustment aligns with the Federal Government's recent revision of the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, which took effect in July 2024.
In January 2025, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed assured that the new allowance would commence by February 2025, following the passage of the 2025 Federal Government budget. However, as of March 2025, corps members continue to receive the previous stipend of ₦33,000. The delay in implementing the increased allowance has been attributed to funding challenges. The NYSC has stated that they are actively pursuing the necessary financial backing to facilitate the payment and have requested additional time to resolve the issue.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed concern over the delay, describing it as a significant injustice to corps members and calling for an investigation into the matter. The NYSC has reiterated its commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and assures that efforts are underway to expedite the implementation of the new allowance.
