On March 7, 2025, Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the party's Lagos State gubernatorial candidate, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Dr. Doyin Okupe. Dr. Okupe, a former Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation and seasoned political figure, passed away earlier that day at the age of 72.
During the visit, Mr. Obi expressed his profound sadness over Dr. Okupe's passing, describing it as a significant loss not only to his family but also to the Labour Party and the broader political community. He assured the bereaved family of his unwavering support during this challenging period and emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in times of grief.

Mr. Rhodes-Vivour also conveyed his condolences, highlighting Dr. Okupe's dedication to Nigeria's progress and his influential role in the nation's political landscape. He acknowledged the deep void left by Dr. Okupe's departure and prayed for strength and comfort for the grieving family.

Dr. Okupe was renowned for his extensive service to Nigeria, having held pivotal roles such as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan. His commitment to national development and his contributions to political discourse have been widely recognized and lauded.
