During the probe session held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Committee Chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen, cited a breach of Order 40 of the Senate Standing Orders. He explained that Akpoti-Uduaghan had signed the petition herself, instead of having it endorsed by another individual, rendering it procedurally invalid. Additionally, Imasuen noted that the issues raised in the petition were already before the court, making them sub judice and beyond the Senate's jurisdiction.
Despite the committee's scheduled sitting, Akpoti-Uduaghan was absent from the hearing. The session, set for 2:00 PM, did not commence until 2:58 PM due to her absence. Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South) attended the probe session to defend the integrity of the Senate. During deliberations, Adaramodu informed the committee that Akpoti-Uduaghan's public challenge of the Senate President over her seat allocation had damaged the Senate's image. He also referenced an interview she granted to Brekete Family on Human Rights Radio and TV, where she reiterated her allegations against Akpabio.
The matter was referred to the Ethics Committee two weeks prior, following Akpoti-Uduaghan's actions during a plenary session. Senate President Akpabio subsequently directed the committee to conduct a thorough investigation and report back within two weeks.
In response to the allegations, Akpabio has denied any wrongdoing, stating, "At no time did I ever harass any woman. I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women."
The dismissal of the petition underscores the importance of adherence to procedural rules and the separation of powers between the legislative and judicial branches.
