Wolves Striker Matheus Cunha Charged by FA After Red Card Incident Against Bournemouth

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for acting in an "improper manner" following his red card during the FA Cup fifth-round tie against AFC Bournemouth on March 1, 2025.
The incident occurred in the 119th minute of extra time when Cunha was dismissed for violent conduct after an altercation with Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. The altercation involved a headbutt, punch, and kick, leading to his immediate expulsion from the match. Following the red card, Cunha initially refused to leave the field and had to be escorted off by teammates and staff.

The FA's charge pertains to Cunha's conduct after his dismissal, alleging that he acted improperly. He has until March 10 to respond to the charge. An automatic three-match suspension follows a red card for violent conduct; however, this suspension could be extended pending the outcome of the FA's charge. Cunha has already been banned for two games and fined £80,000 this season after a post-match altercation with a member of Ipswich Town's security staff in December.

Cunha's potential absence comes at a critical time for Wolves, who are currently 17th in the Premier League, just one place and five points above the relegation zone. The team faces crucial upcoming fixtures against Everton, Southampton, and West Ham, matches that could significantly impact their fight for Premier League survival.
