Amad Diallo watched from the sidelines as Manchester United secured a dramatic 5-4 victory over Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on April 17, 2025, at Old Trafford.

After the game, the Ivorian posed for selfie with his team mate Alejandro Garnacho and Manuel Ugarte inside the dressing room.

The victory saw United overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg, winning 7-6 on aggregate, and booking their place in the semi-finals.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions. Despite Lyon holding a 3-1 advantage from the first leg, Manchester United fought back with determination. Early goals from Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Rayan Cherki put United on the back foot, but Bruno Fernandes’ penalty and a dramatic equalizer from Kobbie Mainoo deep into extra time levelled the score. In the final moments, Harry Maguire rose to the occasion, scoring the winning header to seal the victory for United. Lyon, already down to 10 men after Corentin Tolisso's red card, couldn’t withstand United’s pressure.

Amad Diallo, who has been in excellent form throughout the season, was notably absent from the matchday squad. His absence was felt by fans, especially considering his impact in previous rounds of the competition. Social media lit up with humorous comments, with fans joking that Diallo might be regretting missing the thrilling game. One fan tweeted, “Amad Diallo watching the game from home like 😂😂😂,” while another added, “Diallo's probably thinking, ‘I could’ve scored that header’ 😂.”

With the victory secured, Manchester United now turns their attention to a semi-final clash with Athletic Bilbao, with the first leg set for May 1 in Spain and the second leg on May 8 at Old Trafford. As the team moves forward in the competition, fans are hopeful that Diallo will return to the lineup for what promises to be an exciting run toward European glory.
