Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has strongly refuted claims that the team's recent downturn is due to an aging squad, labeling such assertions as uninformed. In a candid interview, Silva challenged critics to specify which players they believe are too old, stating, "Tell me, which player? Give me names. That's people that don't understand the game."
Silva, who is 30, pointed out that both he and teammate Mateo Kovačić are in their early thirties, emphasizing, "You're not talking about guys that are 36." He questioned the sudden shift in perception following a few months of poor performance: "We have six or four bad months and out of nowhere we're old, not good enough. In the last eight seasons we've won six Premier Leagues and for four bad months we're old?"
He further criticized the understanding of those attributing the team's struggles to age, remarking, "That's people that don't understand the game, never played the game and probably don't understand a thing about football."
Silva's comments come amid a season where Manchester City has faced significant challenges, including injuries to key players like Erling Haaland, who is expected to be sidelined for seven weeks due to an ankle issue. Despite these setbacks, Silva remains confident in the squad's capabilities and dismisses age-related critiques as unfounded.
