Davido Ordered to Respond to Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Within 21 Days by U.S. Court

Nigerian singer Davido faces a legal challenge brought before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He is accused of copyright infringement and breaching a settlement agreement by four Nigerian musicians. The plaintiffs claim Davido's 2024 release, "Strawberry on Ice," was created using elements from their 2022 song, "Work," without authorization.

The court documents reveal that the plaintiffs shared the demo of "Work" with Davido in 2022, aiming for a collaboration. Instead, they allege the song's instrumental and vocal components were unlawfully incorporated into "Strawberry on Ice." They attempted to settle the matter, leading to a March 2025 agreement in which Davido was to pay $45,000 and allocate portions of royalties. However, the deadline for payment passed without fulfillment, resulting in the April lawsuit.

The plaintiffs are demanding $150,000 in damages, along with the transfer of copyright shares and an injunction to prevent further violations. At this time, Davido and his team have not responded to the allegations.
