Diogo Dalot Faces Extended Absence as Ruben Amorim Confirms Possible Season-End Injury

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has been dealt a significant blow after suffering a calf injury that could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season. Head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed the extent of the injury, stating that Dalot will miss the upcoming fixtures, with a real possibility that he may be out for the rest of the campaign.

"Diogo will be out for the next games... and it’s possible also for the rest of the season," Amorim remarked. The news comes as a major setback for the Portuguese right-back, who has been an integral part of United's defense, making 51 appearances across all competitions this season.

Amorim remains hopeful that Dalot could recover in time, but cautioned that the situation will be assessed on a week-by-week basis. "He works really hard; he can recover quite well, so we will see," he added.

With Dalot's absence, Amorim faces a tactical dilemma. There is speculation that Patrick Dorgu may be shifted to right wing-back, or Noussair Mazraoui could be moved from central defense to cover the right flank. In addition, young players such as Harry Amass or Luke Shaw could be called upon to step in during this crucial phase of the season.

Despite Dalot's injury, there is some positive news on the injury front. Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt are both nearing returns to fitness, offering a potential boost to United's squad in the coming weeks as they prepare for important matches, including a Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao.
