Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has officially ruled out Dani Olmo for the upcoming La Liga match against Leganes this weekend.
Speaking to the press, Flick stated, “Dani Olmo will NOT play tomorrow. It's better for him to take more time and train here with the staff. He won’t be available.”
Olmo, who recently sustained an adductor injury during Barcelona's match against Osasuna, has been undergoing rehabilitation. The injury, which occurred shortly after he scored a penalty in the game, has sidelined him for several weeks. While there was initial optimism about his return, Flick emphasized the importance of prioritizing the player's long-term fitness over rushing him back into action.
Barcelona, currently leading the La Liga table, will face Leganes at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Saturday evening. The match is crucial for the Catalan giants as they aim to maintain their four-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid.
Flick acknowledged the challenges of managing player fatigue, especially with a packed schedule that includes league fixtures, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey final later this month.
Despite Olmo's absence, Barcelona boasts a strong squad depth, with players like Ferran Torres, Gavi, and Fermin Lopez stepping up in recent games. Flick expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt, stating, “A team isn’t about the starting eleven, but about the 26 players we have. The key to everything is that we’re a team, and anyone who can play can contribute.”
