Nico Schlotterbeck Ruled Out for the Season Following Meniscus Tear
Borussia Dortmund has been dealt a significant blow as central defender Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to a meniscus tear in his left knee.
The injury, confirmed by the club, leaves a void in Dortmund's defensive lineup during a critical phase of the campaign.
Schlotterbeck, 25, has been a cornerstone of Dortmund's defense this season, delivering consistently strong performances in both domestic and international competitions. His absence comes at a challenging time, with the team preparing for high-stakes matches, including a UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Barcelona and a Bundesliga showdown with Bayern Munich.
Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, expressed the team's disappointment, stating, "Nico's absence is a hammer blow. He is a very important part of our team and has impressed with consistently good performances this season. We hope that he will be fit again quickly and will receive maximum support from us on his road to recovery."
The injury also casts doubt on Schlotterbeck's availability for Germany's upcoming Nations League semi-finals and the FIFA Club World Cup later this year. As Dortmund navigates the remainder of the season, the team will rely on players like Emre Can, Waldemar Anton, Niklas Süle, and Ramy Bensebaini to fill the defensive gap left by Schlotterbeck.
