Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan will remain with the club until June 2026, following the activation of a one-year extension clause in his contract.
Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the extension, stating:“Gündo has one more year contract, definitely. What's going to happen in the summer I don't know, but he has one more year contract now.”
Gündogan rejoined Manchester City in August 2024 after a season with FC Barcelona. His return was facilitated by Barcelona's financial challenges, which led to his departure from the Spanish club. Upon his return, Gündogan signed a one-year deal with an option for an additional year, contingent upon his participation in over 50% of City's matchday squads during the season. Having met this criterion, the extension was automatically triggered, securing his stay until 2026.
During his initial seven-year tenure at Manchester City, Gündogan made 304 appearances, scoring 60 goals and providing 38 assists. He played a pivotal role in the club's success, contributing to five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, and a Champions League victory.
