Three Killed in Tragic Akure Road Crash Involving Tricycle and Truck

A tragic accident on the morning of Friday, April 18, 2025, in the Oke Aro area of Akure, Ondo State, claimed the lives of a married couple and another individual.

The collision occurred along the Itagbanja axis of Idanre Road and involved a commercial tricycle, commonly known as a Keke Napep, and a truck. Eyewitnesses reported that reckless driving by both drivers contributed to the fatal crash.

Two of the victims died at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The truck driver, who initially fled the scene to avoid an angry mob, later surrendered to the B Division Police Station in Oke Aro.

Following the incident, some residents staged a protest at the police station, prompting officers to disperse the crowd using tear gas. In the aftermath, several commercial tricycles were reportedly impounded by security operatives.
