Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, recently crowned the 2024 CAF Player of the Year, paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday. During his visit, Lookman proudly presented his prestigious award to the two leaders in recognition of their support for Nigerian football and sports development.
Lookman, who was honored as Africa’s best footballer at a ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, in December 2024, returned to Nigeria following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Serie A season. His remarkable performances for both club and country earned him the coveted title, succeeding fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who won the award in 2023.
The Super Eagles winger played a crucial role in Nigeria’s campaign at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals and providing an assist in seven appearances. His contributions helped Nigeria reach the final of the tournament, further solidifying his reputation as one of Africa’s finest footballers.
At the club level, Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, delivering a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. His stellar performances throughout the season saw him register 20 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances, making him a key figure in Atalanta’s success.
During the presentation ceremony, President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Lookman for his dedication and achievements, emphasizing the importance of Nigerian athletes excelling on the global stage.
