Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber is set to undergo ankle surgery following a decision by the club's medical team to address his ongoing fitness concerns. The Dutch international, who has made 48 appearances this season, has been sidelined since the team's Champions League semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on May 7. While the exact duration of his recovery remains uncertain, Timber is aiming to return in time for Arsenal's pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong, commencing on July 19 .

Timber's absence adds to Arsenal's growing injury list, which includes defenders Gabriel Magalhães and Takehiro Tomiyasu, forward Gabriel Jesus, and William Saliba, who sustained a thigh injury during the recent match against Newcastle. Despite these setbacks, midfielder Kai Havertz has recently returned from a hamstring issue. In Timber's absence, Ben White is expected to start at right-back for the final Premier League game against Southampton .

Manager Mikel Arteta is preparing for a busy summer transfer window, with plans to strengthen the squad's depth. Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, valued at £60 million, is among the top targets. Several departures are anticipated, including loanees Neto and Raheem Sterling, with the latter unlikely to return due to underperformance. Potential signings, such as Nico Williams, could lead to further changes in the squad, including the possible departure of Leandro Trossard .

Arteta's focus remains on ensuring the team is well-prepared for the upcoming season, emphasizing the importance of squad depth and fitness.
