Bayern Munich President Confirms Florian Wirtz Favors Liverpool Move

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has confirmed that Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz appears to be favouring a move to Liverpool over a potential switch to the Bundesliga champions.
In a recent statement, Hainer revealed: “Our director Max Eberl informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool.” This revelation marks a significant blow to Bayern’s pursuit of the highly-rated midfielder, who has been on the radar of top European clubs following a stellar season.

Wirtz, 21, played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic 2024/25 campaign, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists as the club clinched their first-ever Bundesliga title. His standout performances have caught the attention of clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid, but Liverpool have emerged as front-runners for his signature.

Reports suggest that Wirtz has been particularly impressed by the sporting project at Anfield under new head coach Arne Slot. The Premier League club are believed to be in active negotiations with Leverkusen, who value the Germany international at over £125 million—a fee that would break the British transfer record.

While Bayern were prepared to make a serious financial offer, Hainer’s comments reflect growing internal acceptance that Wirtz may prefer to take the next step in his career outside Germany.

Liverpool remain hopeful of completing the deal as they look to reinforce their midfield options ahead of the new season.
