Cristiano Ronaldo Signals End of Al-Nassr Era with Cryptic Message: Speculation Mounts Over Next Destination

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his departure from Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club he joined in December 2022, with a cryptic message on social media: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
The announcement came after Ronaldo's final match for Al-Nassr—a 3–2 defeat to Al-Fateh on May 26, 2025—where he scored his 35th goal of the season. His contract with the club is set to expire in June, and no renewal has been confirmed. Al-Nassr finished the Saudi Pro League season without a trophy and failed to qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite, placing third in the league.

Ronaldo's message has sparked widespread speculation about his next move. FIFA President Gianni Infantino mentioned ongoing discussions about Ronaldo potentially joining a Club World Cup team, although Al-Nassr did not qualify for the revamped tournament. A short-term deal with a Club World Cup side, followed by a return to Al-Nassr, is a possible scenario, though no loan moves are planned.

An unnamed Brazilian club has reportedly made an offer to Ronaldo. Options include Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Botafogo, with a potential match against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami if he joins Palmeiras. Alternatively, Infantino suggested a possible collaboration with Messi’s team.

Despite a challenging season, Ronaldo maintained impressive individual performance with 35 goals in 41 matches, earning a second consecutive Saudi Golden Boot. There is no indication yet of retirement from the 40-year-old star.
