Manchester United’s goalkeeper André Onana has found himself in the headlines again—this time off the pitch—after police seized his eye-catching £350,000 Lamborghini Urus in Greater Manchester for lacking insurance.
The luxury SUV, which was being driven by a friend, was pulled over in Hale Barns after being flagged by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. Officers discovered it was not insured, and the vehicle was promptly towed to a police pound. Onana now faces a 14-day deadline to prove ownership and provide valid insurance documents or risk the flashy ride being auctioned off—or worse, destroyed.
This off-field incident only adds to the Cameroonian’s bumpy debut season at Old Trafford. After a high-profile £50 million move from Inter Milan in 2023, Onana has faced heavy scrutiny for a string of goalkeeping errors. Despite that, he helped the Red Devils to an FA Cup title and has made close to 100 appearances for the club.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first brush with misfortune for the Onana household. Earlier this year, his wife Melanie was reportedly robbed outside an upscale Italian restaurant in Cheshire—losing a £62,000 Hermès handbag and a Rolex watch in the process. A suspect has since been charged and is awaiting trial.
Interestingly, Onana isn’t the first United player to run into car trouble. In 2021, Paul Pogba had his £300,000 Rolls-Royce Wraith seized over licence plate issues—racking up fines and storage fees after leaving it at the pound for months.
