The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has successfully facilitated the return of Adeola, the 41-year-old daughter of renowned Nollywood actress Jumoke George, from Mali. Adeola had been trafficked and missing for four years. The announcement was made on Monday by NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter). She expressed relief upon receiving Adeola, accompanied by actress Biola Adebayo and actor Niyi Johnson, who had been instrumental in raising awareness about Adeola’s plight.
The news follows a poignant video that surfaced online, showing Jumoke George in tears as she recounted years of personal tragedy, including her homelessness, poor health, and the mysterious disappearance of her daughter. In the video, Jumoke pleaded for prayers and public support, revealing that Adeola had been missing for over four years and that she had been living in a church for shelter and food during that time.
The intervention of NiDCOM underscores the Commission's commitment to safeguarding Nigerians abroad and ensuring their safe return. NiDCOM continues to collaborate with various stakeholders to address issues related to human trafficking and support the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.
This development brings a sense of closure to a harrowing chapter for Jumoke George and her family, highlighting the importance of vigilance and support in combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety of citizens abroad.
