Rodri Makes Return for Manchester City After Long Injury Layoff

Manchester City midfielder Rodri made a triumphant return to action on Tuesday, marking his first appearance since suffering a serious knee injury in September 2024. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner came on as a late substitute in City's 3–1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium.

Rodri's comeback follows an eight-month recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during a match against Arsenal. Initially expected to miss the remainder of the season, his return ahead of schedule provides a significant boost to City's midfield as they push for Champions League qualification.

Entering the match in the 83rd minute, Rodri replaced striker Erling Haaland, receiving a warm ovation from the home crowd. His presence helped solidify City's lead, ensuring a crucial win that elevates them to third place in the league standings with one game remaining.

Manager Pep Guardiola expressed his satisfaction with Rodri's return, noting the midfielder's importance to the team's structure and balance. Rodri's availability comes at a pivotal moment, as City aims to secure a spot in next season's Champions League and prepare for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Rodri's return also holds significance for the Spanish national team, with manager Luis de la Fuente expected to include him in the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

The match also served as a farewell for City captain Kevin De Bruyne, who played his final home game for the club. The Belgian midfielder was honored with tributes, including a planned statue and a street named in his honor, celebrating his decade-long contribution to the club's success.

With Rodri back in action and the team rallying behind their departing captain, Manchester City looks poised to finish the season on a high note, aiming for a strong performance in their final league match and the upcoming Club World Cup.
