Timo Werner Departs Tottenham Hotspur, Returns to RB Leipzig After Loan Spell

German forward Timo Werner has officially left Tottenham Hotspur following the conclusion of his loan spell and will return to RB Leipzig. The 28-year-old striker, who joined Spurs on loan in January 2024, was unable to secure a permanent move to North London after a challenging season.

Werner initially arrived at Tottenham in a six-month loan deal, which was later extended for the full season. Despite showing glimpses of his attacking prowess, he struggled to make a significant impact, registering only one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions. His lack of goals and inconsistency led Tottenham to opt against activating the reported £8.5 million buy option included in his loan agreement.

During his time at Leipzig before moving to the Premier League, Werner was regarded as one of Europe's most promising forwards, scoring 28 Bundesliga goals in the 2019-20 season. However, his career trajectory took a downturn following his move to Chelsea, where he struggled to replicate his previous form.

With his return to RB Leipzig, Werner will look to reignite his career and reclaim his status as a top-tier striker. Leipzig, who still hold his contract until the summer of 2026, will assess his role within the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Werner's departure is part of a broader squad reshuffle at Tottenham, which also saw Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilón, and Alfie Whiteman leave the club following the expiration of their contracts. As Spurs look to strengthen their attacking options, Werner will now focus on making an impact back in the Bundesliga.
