Still, born in Belgium to English parents, gained recognition for his tactical acumen during managerial spells in France with Stade de Reims and RC Lens. Most recently, he led Lens to an impressive eighth-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024–25 season.
His move to Southampton also brings him closer to his partner, Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders, who has been undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer and recovering from encephalitis. Still acknowledged the personal significance of the move while expressing his ambition:

Southampton’s Technical Director, Johannes Spors, welcomed the appointment, noting:
