Petrović, 25, who impressed during a season-long loan at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, was expected to be part of the tournament as Chelsea reassessed their goalkeeping options. However, head coach Enzo Maresca and the club have decided to leave out all players who spent the 2024–25 season on loan, with the only exception being midfielder Andrey Santos, who also featured for Strasbourg and has earned a place in the travelling squad.
The decision casts uncertainty over Petrović’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge. Several clubs are said to be interested in a permanent transfer, making it unlikely that he will remain at Chelsea beyond the summer.
Chelsea’s approach for the tournament is to rely on players who have been part of the team throughout the season. As a result, other notable loanees such as Raheem Sterling, João Félix, and Axel Disasi will also miss out.
Andrey Santos’ inclusion signals the club’s intent to more fully integrate him into the first-team setup following a successful spell in France.
