Cristiano Ronaldo, now aged 40, was visibly emotional after Portugal secured victory in the UEFA Nations League final. The dramatic match against Spain ended 2–2 after extra time, with Ronaldo scoring Portugal’s second goal—his 138th for the national team—forcing the game into a penalty shootout.
Portugal went on to win 5–3 in the shootout, thanks to crucial saves from goalkeeper Diogo Costa and composed finishes from Bruno Fernandes, Nuno Mendes, and Rúben Neves. As the final penalty was converted, Ronaldo dropped to his knees in tears, overwhelmed by the moment. This marks Portugal’s second Nations League title, following their first in 2019, making them the first country to win the trophy twice.

The Portuguese team demonstrated resilience and tactical sharpness throughout the match. Nuno Mendes opened the scoring and also contributed in the shootout, while Ronaldo’s leadership and performance at his age were central to the team’s success.
