Ex-Cameroon legend Geremi Njitap has been handed a five-year ban from all football-related activities by the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) and fined £13,000. The disciplinary action follows a dispute with Fecafoot president and former teammate, Samuel Eto’o.
The incident occurred during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Geremi—who currently serves as president of the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (Synafoc)—allegedly entered the national team’s dressing room without proper authorization. This led to a confrontation and accusations of violating Fecafoot's code of ethics.
In an official statement, Fecafoot’s ethics committee declared:
> “We declare Geremi Sorel Njitap, president of Synafoc, guilty of breaking the behaviour rules of our code of ethics. We sentence him to a ban from all forms of football activity for five years, and to a fine of ten million West African francs [approximately £13,000]. He has ten days to submit a written appeal.”
Daniel Blaise Ngos, a member of Geremi’s team, was also sanctioned with a two-year ban and a £6,500 fine.
Geremi, a former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder, earned 118 caps for Cameroon and won two Africa Cup of Nations titles, an Olympic gold medal in 2000, and two Premier League titles with Chelsea.
