AS Roma has officially appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as the club's new head coach on a three-year contract, effective immediately. The 67-year-old Italian tactician succeeds Claudio Ranieri, who retired after leading Roma to a fifth-place finish in Serie A and securing Europa League qualification for the upcoming season .

Gasperini brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success, most notably from his transformative nine-year tenure at Atalanta. Under his leadership, Atalanta evolved from mid-table contenders to consistent European competitors, highlighted by a historic UEFA Europa League triumph in 2024—the club's first major European trophy .

Renowned for his tactical acumen, emphasis on youth development, and attacking philosophy, Gasperini has been instrumental in nurturing talents and implementing a dynamic style of play . His appointment aligns with Roma's ambition to return to the UEFA Champions League, a competition they last participated in during the 2018–19 season .

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Gasperini stated, "It would be a source of pride to coach Roma. It's a great place with exceptional fans" . His decision was influenced by the club's passionate fan base and the opportunity to work alongside Ranieri, who will continue to serve in an advisory capacity .

Gasperini's immediate focus will be on preparing the squad for the upcoming season, aiming to build upon the foundations laid by his predecessor and to guide Roma back to Europe's premier club competition.
