Liam Delap has completed the first part of his medical at Chelsea as the club moves closer to finalising a deal for the Ipswich Town striker. The formal steps of the transfer, including contract signing and official announcement, are expected to take place early next week.
Chelsea have activated Delap’s £30 million relegation release clause, allowing them to bypass lengthy negotiations with Ipswich. The 21-year-old forward is set to sign a long-term contract with the Blues until 2031.
Delap impressed in the Premier League last season, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances despite Ipswich’s relegation. His performances attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, but he has chosen to join Chelsea where he will reunite with manager Enzo Maresca. The pair previously worked together during their time at Manchester City's academy.
There is also ongoing discussion about the possibility of Chelsea striker Marc Guiu heading to Ipswich on loan as part of the overall deal.
With Delap's arrival nearly confirmed, Chelsea are now expected to turn their attention to bolstering their options out wide, targeting a right-footed left winger to offer balance alongside Mykhailo Mudryk. Players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Nico Williams, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are reportedly among the names under consideration.
