Bayer Leverkusen has rejected Liverpool's second bid for German midfielder Florian Wirtz, with negotiations between the two clubs still ongoing.
Liverpool's latest offer, reportedly around €130 million (£109 million), was turned down by Leverkusen, who are holding out for a €150 million (£126 million) valuation of the 22-year-old star . This figure would surpass the current British transfer record set by Chelsea's acquisition of Moisés Caicedo for approximately £115 million in 2023 .
Despite the setback, discussions remain active, and a successful transfer—potentially a record for an English club—still appears within reach. Sources suggest Bayer Leverkusen was not fully satisfied with the structure of the proposed add-ons, signaling the likelihood of a third, revised bid from Liverpool .
Wirtz, who played a pivotal role in Leverkusen's Bundesliga-winning campaign, contributing 11 goals and 11 assists in 32 league appearances, is under contract until 2027 . His performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
While Liverpool remains keen on securing Wirtz's services, Leverkusen's firm stance on their valuation and the player's commitment to his current club suggest that an agreement is not imminent. The situation continues to evolve as the summer transfer window progresses.
