Mykhailo Mudryk, the 24‑year‑old Chelsea and Ukraine winger, has been formally charged by The Football Association with anti‑doping rule violations, following provisionally suspended status earlier this season. If found guilty, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years from competitive football .
The FA confirmed that Mudryk’s “A” urine sample, obtained during an out‑of‑competition test in December 2024 (from an August sample), tested positive for meldonium, a substance prohibited under FA Regulations 3 and 4 . This prompted a provisional suspension, and his “B” sample—now reviewed—has resulted in formal charges .
Mudryk has vehemently denied any intentional wrongdoing. He expressed shock and regret over the result, insisting he had never knowingly ingested a banned substance. Mudryk is collaborating with Morgan Sports Law, the same firm that successfully reduced Paul Pogba’s doping ban on appeal .
Since the provisional suspension, Mudryk has been unable to train with Chelsea or appear at the club’s facilities. He has not featured in matches since late November 2024, including Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign, during which his No. 10 shirt was reassigned to teammate Cole Palmer .
A spokesperson from The FA stated:
“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti‑Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti‑Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”
The outcome remains pending. Mudryk’s legal team will now engage with the FA’s anti‑doping panel, with a full hearing expected in due course. His future in football—and that of his long‑term contract with Chelsea—now hinges on the resolution of these charges.
