FC Barcelona Agrees Six-Year Deal with Nico Williams
FC Barcelona has reached an agreement on personal terms with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams—a deal extending through June 2031. The 22-year-old will earn a reported salary in the region of €7–8 million net per season.
Williams' €58 million release clause remains active, and Barcelona is working diligently to finalize the transfer. With the release set to be activated in the coming weeks—likely before preseason begins—the club still faces structural challenges in fitting the full contract within La Liga’s salary‑cap rules.
La Liga President Javier Tebas has cautioned that Barça must first generate the necessary fiscal room—through significant squad adjustments or player sales—to register Williams and their recent signing Joan GarcÃa.
Williams, who enjoyed a breakout season tallying 11 goals and 7 assists, has chosen Barcelona as his top destination despite interest from Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Chelsea. He’s reportedly inclined to team up with Spain teammates Lamine Yamal and Raúl GarcÃa in Catalonia.
Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta echoed the mood around the signing, hinting that an “exciting” new addition is imminent ahead of the coming season.
