Real Madrid New Signing Trent Alexander-Arnold Explains Decision to Use First Name on Shirt
Real Madrid’s new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the reason behind his decision to feature only his first name, “Trent,” on the back of his shirt, rather than his full double-barrelled surname.

During his official unveiling at the Santiago Bernabéu, the England international explained that the change was driven by a desire for simplicity and consistency, particularly when playing abroad.

> “When I travel across Europe, people get confused—three names, double-barrelled. I’ve been called Arnold, Alexander, Alex, Trent… it’s a lot,” he said. “So I thought, let’s keep it simple. I want to be known as Trent—that’s my name, and that’s what people will call me.”

The decision marks a fresh chapter for the 25-year-old, who completed a high-profile move from Liverpool to the Spanish giants this summer. Along with adopting a new name on his shirt, Trent will also wear a new number—No. 12—due to La Liga regulations restricting squad numbers to 1–25. His iconic No. 66, worn throughout his Liverpool career, is not permitted in Spain.

The No. 12 shirt at Real Madrid has a strong legacy, previously worn by club legend Marcelo and more recently by Eduardo Camavinga.
