Arsenal Issues Statement Following Rape and Sexual Assault Charges Against Thomas Partey
Arsenal Football Club has formally responded after former midfielder Thomas Partey faced serious criminal charges.

On July 4, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against the 32-year-old Ghanaian international, with incidents reportedly occurring between 2021 and 2022, involving three separate women . Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025 .

Partey – whose contract with Arsenal expired on June 30 – has consistently denied the allegations. His legal team emphasized that he has “fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three‑year investigation” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name” while refraining from further comment due to ongoing legal proceedings .

In a brief statement released via the BBC, Arsenal noted:“The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, underscored the importance of supporting the women who have come forward, urging anyone with additional information or impacted by the case to contact law enforcement .

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, confirmed that the CPS authorized the charges after a comprehensive review of the evidence. Narwal reminded the public of the presumption of innocence and warned against any online content that could jeopardize a fair trial .

Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in October 2020 for approximately £45 million, made over 160 appearances across five seasons. Despite being under investigation since February 2022, he continued to feature in matches for the club throughout the 2024–25 season .
