Arsenal Football Club has officially completed the acquisition of 21-year-old Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia CF for an initial €15 million (£13 million), potentially rising to €20 million with performance-related bonuses .
The centre-half has signed a long-term contract, set to run until June 2030, with an option for an additional year . Mosquera is expected to be a valuable addition to Arsenal's defensive options, offering versatility to play centrally and on either flank of the back line .
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his enthusiasm, saying:
“We’re delighted to welcome Cristhian to Arsenal. At just 21, he already possesses significant La Liga experience, pace, intelligence and adaptability.”
Sporting director Andrea Berta echoed this sentiment: “We identified Cristhian as one of the strongest young defenders in European football… he is an important signing for our future.”
A product of Valencia’s academy, Mosquera made 90 senior appearances, including 37 league matches last season, making him one of the most deployed defenders aged 21 or under across Europe’s top five leagues .
Taking squad number 3, he has already joined the team’s pre-season tour in Singapore, strengthening defensive depth after a season plagued by injuries .
Mosquera commented on his move: “It means a lot to me. I’m joining a historic, massive club… When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place… I’m fully motivated and excited.”
