Manchester United opened their Premier League Summer Series campaign with a 2‑1 win over West Ham United at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 26 July 2025.
Bruno Fernandes proved decisive, netting both goals for the Reds. He converted a penalty inside the opening five minutes and later curled in a superb strike from the edge of the box after the interval to seal the win.
West Ham responded midway through the second half when captain Jarrod Bowen struck with an impressive solo effort to reduce the deficit.
New manager Rúben Amorim was pleased with the performance, marking his first pre-season victory in charge. He singled out Fernandes and new signing Matheus Cunha for praise, while youngster Patrick Dorgu also caught the eye with his attacking intent from the left flank.
However, United’s defensive lapses were exposed, allowing Bowen his moment of brilliance. Midfield transitions also require improvement, with Ayden Heaven finding it a challenge to contain Bowen’s threat.
Despite missing recent signing Bryan Mbeumo, who was not involved due to the timing of his transfer, United showed encouraging cohesion, particularly linking Fernandes and Cunha.
