Bournemouth FC have confirmed the signing of Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrović from Chelsea for a reported £25 million. The 25-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium, stepping in as the Cherries’ primary shot-stopper following the permanent departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Petrović, who excelled during his loan spell at Strasbourg—earning their Player of the Season honours and helping the French side secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League—had been keen on a move that would ensure regular first-team action. Despite being under contract at Chelsea, where he previously served as understudy to Robert Sánchez, he was omitted from their recent Club World Cup squad, a move that facilitated his transfer .
The agreement reportedly stems from a “gentlemen’s agreement” at Stamford Bridge, stipulating that Petrović could depart if a suitable £25 million offer was received . Bournemouth moved quickly to finalise negotiations, with the goalkeeper expected to complete his medical early in the week of July 14 and officially unveiled shortly thereafter .
Having joined Chelsea in August 2023—initially from New England Revolution for a fee believed to be around £12.5 million—Petrović made 23 appearances before his successful 2024–25 campaign in Ligue 1 . His impressive form at Strasbourg highlighted his readiness for a starting role in the Premier League.
