Transfer reports confirm that Galatasaray have secured an agreement in the region of €10 million (£8–11 million) to sign Ederson, who has one year remaining on his contract and has previously dismissed departure rumors as "fake news" while reaffirming his commitment to City. Despite his strong legacy, the 31-year-old Brazilian may be allowed to move on to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026.
In response, Manchester City have moved swiftly to secure James Trafford from Burnley. The 22-year-old returned to the Etihad on a reported five-year contract (with an option for a sixth), in a deal worth approximately £27 million — well below the £40 million buy-back clause included in his original sale in 2023. During his standout season in the Championship, Trafford conceded just 16 goals across 45 matches and kept an impressive 29 clean sheets, earning him strong interest from Newcastle United before choosing City over their offer.
Ederson is set to leave for Galatasaray after eight years as City's first-choice goalkeeper. Despite initial resistance and his own assurances of staying, the club appears ready to finalize his exit this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026.
With Ederson’s contract not extended, the young England international is now positioned to assume the long-term first-choice role. His return also underscores Manchester City’s emphasis on youth and academy talent.
Stefan Ortega, City’s backup in recent seasons, is expected to depart or lose his place as Trafford prepares to step up in the goalkeeping hierarchy.
