Spanish international Martin Zubimendi was seen at Arsenal’s Sobha Realty Training Centre today, marking his first appearance since completing a high-profile move from Real Sociedad. The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Gunners in a deal worth £51 million, signing a five-year contract that runs through 2030.
Zubimendi’s arrival is part of manager Mikel Arteta’s strategic overhaul of the midfield, following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Known for his composure, tactical intelligence, and ability to dictate tempo, Zubimendi is expected to anchor Arsenal’s midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard.
The Spaniard’s transfer was finalized earlier this month after Arsenal opted to pay slightly above his release clause to structure the fee in instalments. His decision to join Arsenal came despite interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool, with Zubimendi citing the club’s style of play and long-term vision as key factors.

“This is a huge moment in my career,” Zubimendi said. “It’s the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are”.

He will wear the No. 36 shirt and is expected to feature prominently in Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures as the team prepares for the 2025/26 campaign.
