The Super Falcons of Nigeria paid a heartfelt visit to South African forward Gabriela Salgado following her injury during Tuesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semifinal in Casablanca. Salgado suffered a serious collision late in the match, which left the score at 1–1 at the time. The impact resulted in a mid-shaft fracture of her left leg, forcing her to be stretchered off and taken to the Mohamed VI University Hospital, where she later underwent successful surgery. Doctors have confirmed that she will be sidelined for the rest of the year.

In a touching display of sportsmanship and solidarity, several Nigerian players, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, visited Salgado at the hospital. They presented her with a signed Super Falcons jersey and shared words of encouragement. The Nigerian coaching staff also released a statement wishing her a full and speedy recovery.

Dr Lindi Mokoena, team doctor for South Africa, praised the treatment Salgado received, confirming the surgery went well and commending both the CAF medical team and the hospital staff. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also extended his well wishes, calling Salgado a brave and talented player and assuring her of national support.

Nigeria won the match 2–1 with a stoppage-time goal by Michelle Alozie, securing their place in the final. South Africa will now compete in the third-place playoff on Friday.
