AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has officially confirmed that Croatian midfield legend Luka Modrić will join the club this summer, following the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup.
“We expect Luka to join us in August,” Allegri stated, signaling the completion of a verbal agreement between the player and the Rossoneri.
Modrić, 39, will arrive on a free transfer after his contract with Real Madrid expires. The deal includes a one-year contract worth €3 million net, with an option to extend for an additional season. Medical examinations are scheduled for July.
The move marks the end of Modrić’s iconic 13-year tenure at Real Madrid, where he won 28 major trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. He was also awarded the Ballon d’Or in 2018 and has earned 188 caps for Croatia.
AC Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare revealed that Modrić was keen to ensure the club was built to compete for the Serie A title. “His arrival is crucial for a group that needs leadership, mentality, and professionalism,” Tare said.
Modrić, a lifelong Milan supporter, is expected to play a pivotal role in the club’s midfield rebuild, especially following the departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City. His signing is also seen as a strategic move to bolster Milan’s squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which Modrić hopes to participate in.
