Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah honored his former teammate Thiago Silva following the Blues’ 2–0 win over Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final, held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 8, 2025. In a heartfelt post-match gesture, Chalobah swapped shirts with Silva—now captaining Fluminense—and proudly wore the Brazilian’s jersey.
Chalobah later shared the moment on Instagram, posting a photo of himself wearing Silva’s shirt with the caption:
“Respect 🫡”
He tagged Silva in the post, to which the veteran defender replied: “I love you mate.”
The match itself was a reunion of sorts, as Silva faced his former club and Joao Pedro—who came through Fluminense’s youth system—returned to haunt his boyhood team. Pedro scored both goals for Chelsea, netting in the 18th and 56th minutes. His first was a curling strike from the edge of the box, and the second a powerful finish off the underside of the crossbar.
Chelsea’s victory secured their place in the Club World Cup final, where they will face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain. The win also marked a standout performance for Pedro, who chose not to celebrate out of respect for Fluminense.
