BBNaija’s Phyna Recounts Disturbing Encounter with Street Beggar in Lagos Traffic
Big Brother Naija winner Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, recently shared details of a troubling incident involving a street beggar in Lagos. While stuck in traffic, Phyna said a young man approached her vehicle and wrote his bank account details on her windshield, requesting a money transfer.
When she declined, the beggar allegedly became aggressive and damaged her car by forcibly removing items from it. Phyna later identified the individual as Yoruba, which sparked backlash online, with many accusing her of tribal profiling.
In response, Phyna clarified that her comments were based solely on her personal experience and not intended to be tribalistic. “I’m not being tribalistic… it’s what I see. This is what one of them did to my car,” she explained.
Following the controversy, she issued a public apology, acknowledging that her anger influenced her choice of words. “It wasn’t my intention to malign the Yoruba tribe… I love all tribes,” she stated, adding that she had worked extensively with Yoruba creatives and held deep respect for the community.
Her apology has received mixed reactions, with some fans commending her for taking responsibility, while others expressed concern over the initial remarks.
