Callum Wilson Joins West Ham on One-Year Deal After Newcastle Exit

Callum Wilson has officially joined West Ham United on a one-year deal following his departure from Newcastle United. The 33-year-old striker arrives on a free transfer and becomes the third senior addition to Graham Potter’s squad this summer, following the signings of Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Wilson, who scored 49 goals in 130 appearances for Newcastle, brings significant Premier League experience to the Hammers. He has made 239 appearances in the top flight, recording 68 goals and 43 assists. He also has nine caps for England, scoring twice, and was part of the squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking after signing, Wilson expressed his enthusiasm about the move, saying, “I’m excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham. A club that shares a similar passion to mine—hard work, dedication. I’m looking forward to the challenge and to working with everyone to achieve the goals this club and its fans deserve.”

Wilson began his career at Coventry City before joining Bournemouth in 2014, where he was instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League. He scored a hat-trick against West Ham at Upton Park in just his third Premier League appearance. He moved to Newcastle in 2020 for around £20 million and had his most prolific season in 2022–23, scoring 18 league goals.

Despite concerns over his injury history—having missed over 100 games during his time at Newcastle—West Ham’s deal for Wilson is structured with performance-based incentives. Reports indicate the contract includes a low base salary with bonuses tied to appearances and goals.

His arrival comes after the departures of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, and he is expected to provide depth, leadership, and a reliable goalscoring option as West Ham prepares for the new season. Wilson is set to make his debut in West Ham’s Premier League opener against Sunderland on August 16, 2025.
