Howe’s comments followed Newcastle's rejection of a reported £110 million bid from Liverpool. Despite the significant offer, the Magpies made it clear they had no intention of selling the Sweden international, who remains under contract until 2028. The club values him at around £150 million and has no plans to enter negotiations.
Isak did not join Newcastle's pre-season tour in Asia, officially due to a minor thigh injury. However, he was later seen training in Spain at his former club Real Sociedad’s facilities, reportedly without Newcastle’s approval. The development raised concerns within the club about the player’s attitude and commitment.
Addressing the situation, Howe said, “You have to earn the right to train with us. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.” He stressed the importance of professionalism and team unity, making it clear that Isak’s return to the squad is not guaranteed.
Although Howe confirmed he has not spoken directly with Isak during his absence, he expressed hope for a resolution, saying, “From our perspective, we support Alex in every way. My wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”
Newcastle are already exploring attacking reinforcements in anticipation of a possible departure. The club has submitted a bid in the region of £65–70 million for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and is also monitoring Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as a potential option.
Isak is expected to return to Newcastle soon, but his involvement with the squad remains uncertain. Howe concluded, “Of course I’d like him to [return], but whether or not he will, I don’t know at this moment.”
The club is determined to maintain discipline and protect its long-term strategy amid one of the summer’s most talked-about transfer sagas.
